MEET YOUR DAILY WORD GAME

Familiar letters.
Fresh possibilities.

Nine little puzzles. A few satisfying discoveries. A moment that belongs to you.

What is 9 Words?

9 Words is a free daily anagram game. Each round gives you a familiar English word with its letters mixed up. Your task is to put every letter in the right place before the clock reaches zero.

There are nine words to uncover, starting with shorter answers and working toward longer ones. Some will click immediately. Others ask you to stop reading the letters the same old way. That moment of recognition is the whole pleasure.

01 / THE SIMPLE PLEASURE OF SOLVING

A jumble of letters.
A word waiting to happen.

You already have everything you need. Give the letters a second look, make a little room for a new arrangement, and follow your curiosity.

ONE LITTLE EXAMPLE
AEPR
P E A R

Same four letters.
A whole new way to see them.

Illustration only — not a clue to today's puzzle.
  1. 01

    Look for the word

Tap the circular letter tiles or type on your keyboard to build an answer. Use every letter once, including repeated letters. Your word is checked automatically when you select the last tile.

  2. 02

    Find a different angle

Not seeing it? Use your one shuffle to rearrange the tiles. Backspace removes the last letter; the eraser clears your answer. A wrong attempt clears the selection so you can try again while time remains.

  3. 03

    Keep the discoveries coming

After each answer is revealed, the next round begins automatically with a fresh 30 seconds. Green squares mark solved words; red squares mark missed ones. Finish all nine to see and copy your result.

FIND YOUR OWN PACE

A daily ritual.
Or a longer wander.

Sometimes a short challenge is just right. Sometimes you want to stay with the letters a little longer.

THE DAILY NINE

One date. The same discovery.

A new daily puzzle arrives at midnight UTC. Everyone playing that date receives the same set, selected from our English word bank. Complete the puzzle to add it to your local statistics and build a streak of consecutive days played.

PRACTICE, YOUR WAY

More words. Less hurry.

Choose Practice whenever you'd like another set. Keep the timer for a little momentum, or enable Untimed practice before starting. Practice leaves your daily result alone, so there's room to experiment without changing your streak.

02 / A DIFFERENT WAY TO LOOK

When the word is there,
but you can't quite see it.

A good anagram is a shift in perspective. Try these small changes before you reach for the shuffle.

01

Find a familiar pair

Instead of reading the whole scramble, look for two letters that often belong together. A pair such as SH or CH gives you a small piece to build around. Try it at the beginning, then move it somewhere else.

02

Start at the ending

An ending can make a long word feel smaller. Check whether the letters could make ING, ED, or ER, then consider what remains. Treat the pattern as a possibility; let it go if the rest of the word doesn't fit.

03

Give the vowels some space

Separate the vowels from the consonants in your mind. Move a vowel between likely consonant pairs and see whether a familiar sound appears. Saying a possible arrangement quietly can help you notice a word you missed on screen.

04

Break your first impression

If you keep seeing the same wrong arrangement, clear it and look again. Your one shuffle offers another starting point. If the answer still doesn't come, notice the revealed word and carry that pattern into your next puzzle.

Prefer to work through a word without a countdown? Try untimed Practice. You can also pause any active round to take a break; the letters are hidden until you resume.

03 / GOOD QUESTIONS, CLEAR ANSWERS

A few things
worth knowing.

The details are right here.

How do I play 9 Words?

Start the daily puzzle and arrange each set of letters into an English word. Tap tiles or use your keyboard. The game checks your answer as soon as all letters are selected, then moves to the next word after a short reveal. Your goal is to solve as many of the nine as you can.

Is the 9 Words game free?

Yes. You can play the daily puzzle and practice sets free in a browser. There is no download, account, or subscription required, and the site currently has no advertising.

When is a new daily puzzle available?

The daily nine changes at midnight UTC. That can be a different date from the one on your local clock. Everyone playing the same UTC date gets the same words. The set is generated from our word bank, rather than manually edited each day.

What happens when the timer runs out?

The round is marked missed and the answer is revealed. The next round starts automatically with its own 30 seconds. Time left over from an earlier word does not carry forward, and a missed word does not end the puzzle.

Can I pause or play without a timer?

Use the pause icon or press Escape to stop an active round. The puzzle letters are hidden until you resume, and a paused daily round stays paused if you refresh. For an entirely unhurried set, choose Practice and turn on Untimed practice before starting.

What if the letters make more than one real word?

Some sets of letters have several valid anagrams. The game accepts its chosen answer and selected common alternatives. It does not check a complete dictionary, so a real word outside that list may not be accepted. Try another arrangement while time remains.

How are scores and streaks counted?

Your score is the number of words solved out of nine. Complete a daily puzzle to record it in this browser, then open the statistics icon to see puzzles played, average score, current streak, and best streak. A streak counts consecutive UTC dates with a completed daily puzzle; practice sets do not affect it.

Will my puzzle be saved if I leave?

Daily progress is saved in this browser when local storage is available. An active clock keeps running if you leave without pausing, so use Pause before taking a break. Progress is not synced across devices, and clearing browser data removes saved results and statistics.

Can I share my result without revealing the answers?

Yes. At the end of a set, choose Copy results. The summary includes your score and a row of colored squares, without the answer words. You decide where to paste it; the game does not post anything for you.

A LITTLE CURIOSITY GOES A LONG WAY
